Two Years

My cat Byrdie died April 5th 2011 at the age of 22.  When he died I made 2 paintings for him..."ashes to ashes" and "Ghost Cat"...before he died I made my favorite Byrdie picture titled "Byrdie in the Leaves".     I made this one for him today so he'd know I still think of him...still miss him... and still love him.

Ballet Cat

Ballet Cat by natalie singer
I love cats. I love the ballet. So here she is.
It's acrylic on canvas. 8"x10" and it's sold!
Actually this is one painting I would have kept if I wasn't a starving artist.

How Stan got framed

I was working on my artwork library and realized that I had all three versions of "Stan in a Frame".
I thought it was fun to see where it started and how it changed so I thought I'd post them all together so you could see the progression as well.

I actually began this painting based on a story about my friend's 3 year old son having asked her to get a cat for him.  Specifically a grey cat which he wanted to name Stanley.  I knew she wasn't getting him a cat so I thought I would paint one for him instead.  But as you can see it turned into something else.

I thought the first version lacked something and was too hallmark greeting card and the second version was just sort of a mess. So I decided to work on the foliage and frame Stan's face because at the time I was working on it,  it was the part of the painting I really loved.

Stan got a new home a few days after I put him in that frame.

"Ashes to Ashes"

This is "Ashes to Ashes".   Byrdie my cat died a week before his 22nd birthday, in April 2011.  The first thing I painted after he died was titled "Ghost Cat".  It's a little sad feeling that one.  Then I did this.  I had him cremated and this was connected with that.  That his ashes would meld with nature and he would become a part of it.  I was a bit off I guess right after he died and it doesn't make a lot of logical sense now,  but yet in some way it still makes sense to me; that he became of part of the world around me in some way......ashes to ashes.

"Clementine" by natalie singer

This is a drawing of Clementine.  She was a very dear friend's cat who recently died.  I'd sent her some photos I'd taken over the years of Clementine and included a note card on which I drew this little picture.

My friend wound up loving the drawing so much she's using it to make personal note cards.
I just love, and am so touched, that it's being used as a tribute to Clem.

Sam sleeps with the paints

Sam....every time she hears me pull out my chair to sit down and draw or paint she comes running and jumps up there on that window seat and stares out the window or sleeps while I do whatever.  She seems to think she MUST lay there while I work.  Her fur can be found on almost every canvas I finish..at least one piece of it.  It's her signature.   I think she believes she's my muse.  Sweet silly little girl.

Stanley

So this "Stanley" the gray cat was also inspired by my friend's 3 year old who said he wanted a gray cat named Stanley.  His parents wound up buying my painting, "Stan in a Frame" before I even painted this one.  I love his little face.
